Join us April 23rd for a talk about growing pomegranates in Florida. Our speaker, Cindy Weinstein, is owner and operator of Green Sea Farms near Zolfo Springs, FL. Cindy and her husband started Green Sea Farms in 2010 after cruising on a sailboat for 20 years. They now have over 140 pomegranate varieties on eight acres and sell pomegranate trees worldwide. Cindy, President of the Florida Pomegranate Association, serves on the UF/Gulf Coast Research and Education Center Advisory Committee, and is a Supervisor for the Hardee County Soil and Water District. Cindy will discuss the best varieties of pomegranates to harvest in our neighborhood according to season.
Cindy plans to share pomegranate horticultural practices including nutritional requirements. Growing in the form of a bush, pomegranate trees don’t need a lot of space in the landscape. They can be planted as a privacy hedge, using several varieties for an extended harvest. Depending on the cultivar, pomegranates are available from August to November.
